Versaboard Mineral Wool vs Rockboard!

As an insulation distributor, it was only a matter of time before I started getting requests for Rockboard, a rigid mineral wool insulation made by Rockwool.  Rockboard is a ” Fire-resistant, non-combustible product with a melting point of approximately 2150°F (1177°C)”.  It’s a pretty neat product providing some of the rigidity found with your typical rigid insulation board (Cladmate, SM, Foamular, Thermofoam, etc…) but with one important advantage: It’s almost fireproof!  Well, it has a much higher  melting point than those other foamed plastic insulations, and therefore it is a qualified component of fire rated wall, roof and floor assemblies.

So, AWESOME. There is a high demand for this type of product. (Rick rubs hands together thinking of all the $$$$ he is going to make!) One slight problem: have you ever tried to get your hands on this stuff? I mean, you know people are desperate when they start calling little ole ME for this product….not naming names…. PCL!!!!!!!!

I was jumping for joy at the thought of getting on the vendors list for one of the Big Boys, until I discovered that Rockboard was scarcer than a Wynne Government supporter in Etobicoke…. Egad.

Fortunately, I may have found an alternative. While making one of my suppliers buy me breakfast the other day, I was lamenting the 4-5week wait times for this amazing Rockboard product. My rep was actually paying attention and then threw this product at me, Thermafiber Versaboard.  It too is a mineral wool semi-rigid product with very similar qualities to the Roxul. While price levels are also similar, this stuff is far more available.

Check out the product links for yourself, and leave a comment below.  And of course, contact RGS for this and all your insulation needs!

Rick out!
